It has almost been a month since I first launched, Let’s Get to the Good Part. And let me just say, I’ve reached one of the good parts of my story. What do people usually say? New year, new me? Well, this new year brought me a new job!
Back Story
I have to admit, creating this blog has been one of the best decisions that I have made in a long time. However, I have to give all of the credit to God. Because quite frankly, I never had any intention of creating a blog at the end of last year. Matter of fact, I didn’t even make any New Year’s resolutions.
There was some time in the middle of January when I was extremely down. Extremely sad. Even somewhat depressed. Because like I said in my first blog post, this first-year post-college has not exactly panned out how I envisioned it for myself. Especially, when it came to my career.
At the beginning of January, well really since August, I have had no consistent job. I have been doing freelance work, Uber Eats, or DoorDash in rotation to keep money in my pocket. Now don’t get me wrong, I am extremely grateful that I even have the means to do those things, but it can become discouraging at times. But that’s all changing now. THANK GOD!!!
What I Look Forward To
I won’t disclose exactly where I’m working because honestly… I don’t have to. If you know, you know. And if you don’t, you just don’t. But what I will say is, I now work for an advertising agency and am very excited about my future ahead.
Speaking of that future, I’ve compiled a list of things I am excited about now that I have a new job.
I Have A Real Interest In Advertising
I’m actually really excited to learn new skills. Especially in the industry that I am fortunate to work in. Fun fact, when I was in college, my first choice for a minor was advertising. However, at Howard, if you major in the School of Communications – SOC, you could not minor in SOC, unless it was a few select minors within the school. I don’t know why it’s that way, but it is. I know I’ll probably face challenges because this is a new space for me, but I’ve rarely met a challenge that I couldn’t beat.
Pay Bills On Time
I am fortunate enough to still be able to live with my mom as I grow as a young adult, so I don’t really have household bills. However, I do have subscriptions. Now, I know what you’re probably thinking… those don’t matter… those are nothing. But if you’re a creative, you probably know what it is like to have to pay for creative subscriptions. For example, the Adobe Creative Cloud? That’s $30 a month. My subscription to have royalty-free music for videos I may need to edit? Another $15. On top of having a car and paying for all of the expenses that come with that as well.
I won’t go into everything I have to pay for, but the point is, these things add up. So yes, I am very excited that I won’t have to worry about paying my bills.
Ability To Travel
This might be one of the things that I am MOST excited about. I am someone who has always wanted to travel the world, but I’ve never been able to afford it. I even wanted to study abroad, but covid happened, and that crushed my little junior-year dreams. But, now I am confident that I WILL make it out of the country this year. And I am very excited to share those experiences with you guys!
Food Reviews
This is truly just me being greedy. And I haven’t mentioned this before, but I am a foodie. One of my favorite past-times, (after sitting in front of a TV), is going out to eat. Especially when it’s a new place or cuisine that I have never had before. For example, right now, I am on the hunt to find a restaurant in Chicago that has something Ube flavored. I have seen Ube on my TikTok “For You,” page constantly and now I have to try it. I even had a dream I tried it the other day, LOL. As it gets warmer outside, I’ll dive into more restaurant reviews. I can’t wait!
Ability To Save
This may sound like a contradiction since I just named several ways how I can spend money. But trust me, I’m excited to save. Believe it or not, I am a saver. I can literally make a $100 dollars stretch a week, sometimes two if need be. And in this economy, it’s easy to spend $100 just by stepping outside. I mean gas alone costs an arm and a leg. I read that a good rule of thumb to follow when it comes to saving is to save 30% of every check. So, I’m going to hold myself accountable. I mean I do want to live on my own eventually!
I’m Ready!
These are just a few things that I am excited to be able to do now that I have a job. It has been a long ride up until this moment, but I’m basking in it. This is only the beginning. And if you’re someone who, like me, has been playing the waiting game for a job, I want to let you know, that you got this! I believe in you! Your time is definitely coming! Rejection is redirection! Trust the process and God’s timing! I can’t wait to see all the blessings that this year has for all of us.
